Denise Thorsen received her PhD, MS, and BS degrees from the University of Illinois in 1996, 1991, and 1985 respectively. Her research interests are primarily concerned with observing the atmosphere; this includes studying wave dynamics and their interaction with the background atmosphere, designing satellites and radar systems for acquiring backscatter data, and developing radar techniques for observing the middle atmosphere. Denise is currently the Alaska Space Grant Director and Alaska NASA EPSCoR Director for the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She has been at the Geophysical Institute since 2001.
