Martin studied physics at ETH Zurich in Switzerland before getting his doctorate in geophysics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His research interests are in glaciology including glacier dynamics, ice flow modeling and subglacial processes. Martin started his teaching career as a gym teacher in Switzerland — now, he has been a full professor at UAF since 2012. In his spare time Martin enjoys flying his airplane and outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking.
