Aurora through the ages

Syun-Ichi Akasofu, a well-known international authority on the aurora, will present a lecture, “Aurora Through the Ages,” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 in the Elvey Auditorium, room 214 of the Elvey Building on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. He will discuss historical events in auroral science and its latest developments.

Akasofu was director of the UAF Geophysical Institute from 1986 to 1999, when he became founding director of UAF's International Arctic Research Center. Akasofu came to Alaska in December 1958 and earned a Ph.D. under Sydney Chapman at UAF in 1961. Chapman was professor of geophysics and advisory scientific director of the Geophysical Institute at UAF from 1951-1970.
