CeCe Borries-Strigle at AGU 2023

CeCe Borries-Strigle, a doctoral student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks doing research through the UAF Geophysical Institute, presented findings of her research into Bering Strait sea ice. Ocean temperature and heat transport through the Bering Strait have increased over the past 20 years. New modeling using a range of temperatures shows that reduced regional September sea ice occurs one to three months after a heat increase.

She presented the research Thursday at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco. The research is associated with phase two of the Sea Ice Prediction Network project, funded by the National Science Foundation. The aim is to improve Arctic sea ice forecasts.
