RCS Networks, Systems, & Services Status

This page displays a summary of the current status of RCS hosted & maintained networks, systems, and services. For now, it is maintained manually. Please contact uaf-rcs@alaska.edu with any questions.

Current Status

2026-08-31 16:30 Online and Offline file shares are down. RCS staff are working on diagnosing the issue.

2026-09-02 08:00 Online and Offline file shares are partially available. RCS staff continue work diagnosing the issue.

2026-09-03 08:00 Access to Online and Offline file shares is being slowly restored. As part of diagnosing the issue, mounts are being brought up slowly to try to isolate possible causes of the instability.

2026-08-31 16:302026-08-31 18:30The central storage server rebooted. Too many files were opened on a single file share again & this exhausted kernel resources.

2026-08-26 09:002026-08-26 17:00The central storage server crashed. It looks like an iSCSI network issue caused memory corruption. Rebooting the iSCSI server and target cleared the issue for now. A problem with the bootloader on the central storage server occurred that required working around and extended the length of the outage. Future work will be done on this.
2026-06-16 15:102026-06-16 20:10A hardware failure on a disk server caused the central storage server to reboot. The failing component has been replaced. Both servers were returned to service. Network file shares were remounted on Chinook, servers, and VMs.

2025-08-23 23:542025-08-24 10:00Another issue with the same disk server caused the central storage server to crash again. This time we were able to track it down to a drive failing. The drive was configured out. Both servers were rebooted and placed back in service. Network file shares were remounted on Chinook, servers, and VMs.
