Alaska's coastal mountains are home to a stunning array of ice sheets and glaciers. The meltwater from glaciers flows into the ocean, carrying massive amounts of silt and a chemical fingerprint that is distinct from rain-fed watersheds. As these iconic glaciers retreat they will leave behind valleys that will then become rain-fed watersheds. A team of scientists from UAA, UAF and UAS are working together to understand how changes in glacial cover will impact everything from water chemistry to fisheries in Alaska's coastal margins. Join us to learn about lessons learned and questions we still have about the impact of retreating glaciers on Alaska's marine life.
