Early in Ned Rozell’s career as a science writer for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute, he realized the best way to reach intriguing places in Alaska was to catch a ride with scientists. In exchange, he would carry batteries for them and write about their work in the Alaska Science Forum, the weekly story he has produced for the Geophysical Institute a few thousand times.

Join Ned on a trip all over this oversized peninsula, from the farthest sweep of the treeless Aleutian Islands to Point Lonely, a Soviet-era radar site now inhabited by polar bears. Wear your XTRATUFs and carry your nose hat, just in case.
